I would also like to add that I have officially retired from the IHSR Foundation and will be a consultant if needed. I want to thank especially Newlin Martin, with Martin's IGA, because without him and his crew there would be no scholarship foundation. Thanks also to Goeckner Brothers Dodge, S and W Market and the IHSRA for contributing to the scholarship fund over the years. Thanks to all those that have applied and received scholarships over these years and good luck to all IHSRA members, including moms and dads. I do want it understood that I am retiring from the foundation, but as long as I can climb stairs I will be available to announce any IHSRA Rodeo where I am asked to be. There may be some that cost more, there may be some younger, but you would be hard pressed to find one that cares more!
HAPPY TRAILS!
FORGOT TO MENTION. ANY SCHOLARSHIP QUESTIONS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO JERRY JONES OR PETE BRANDENBURGER. IHSRA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION SPRING 2010
All seniors will receive an information letter between mid April and mid May with the requirements that will be needed.
On Thursday morning of State Finals week, you will need to pick up your application at the Rodeo Office. The application must be filled out, hand written, and returned to the Rodeo Office by 6:30 pm of Thursday. Be sure, when turning in your application that the person receiving your application writes the time on the top of the first page. Applications turned in after 6:30 will not be eligible.
On Thursday night, after the rodeo, the Foundation Board members will examine all the applications to ensure they are complete. The names of the applicants who have submitted complete applications will go into a hat and a draw will be made for the order of the interviews on Friday. The results of the draw will be posted in the rodeo office front window. (This will be done late Thursday night )
On Friday, all applicants on the draw will report to the Rodeo Office at 9.am. You will meet a Foundation Board member at this time and that person will escort the group to the interview room. Once you enter the interview room you will not be allowed to leave until after your interview.
Each applicant, in order of the draw, will be interviewed by a 3 person interview team. These teams are usually made up of area educators, business persons, and people with rodeo backgrounds. Each team member will score you and the total of those 3 scores will be your final score.
You will be scored in seven categories with each category scored from 1 to 5 points. The categories are: LEADERSHIP SKILLS----- SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES MOTIVATION AND SINCERITY-----FINANCIAL NEED-----AIMS AND GOALS ACADEMIC AND EDUCATION----RODEO INVOLVEMENT.
Interviews generally take about 15 minutes each. You must leave the building after your interview is finished.
After receiving your information letter, if you have any questions, please contact a Foundation Board member, they will be glad to answer any questions.

The sponsor of the barbeque is Martin's IGA in Effingham. With volunteer help of the IGA employees and with the assistance of foundation members and the IHSRA Senior contestants this barbeque has been the cornerstone for the existence of the IHSR Foundation. Other major sponsors for scholarship funds have included Goeckner Brothers Dodge in Effingham and several volunteer organizations in the Effingham-Altamont area that have sponsored a Rodeo Breakfast the lst few years that has helped to raise fnds for the scholarship foundation. Senior scholarships are awarded to seniors through an application and interview process. Scoring the interview is based on need, academic achievement, community involvement and career goals. No separate form is required for memorial scholarships, although those may have other requirements. Scoring for the interview helps determine either Gold or Silver Scholarships, which are paid in two scoring categories. Currently, there are two memorial scholarships: The Carrol Hurd Memorial Scholarship and the Barb Frank Memorial Scholarship. The Carrol Hurd Scholarship is awarded to an IHSRA senior that meets the scholarship requirements and has competed in the Steer Wrestling Event in High School Rodeo. The Barb Frank Scholarship is awarded to an IHSRA senior girl contestant that meets all of the scholarship requirements and has competed in Team Roping. Donations to the Illinois High School Rodeo Foundation are welcomed and appreciated and fully tax exempt as provided under Section 501(c)(3). Tax Identification number is available upon request.
